Geotube Sludge Dewatering Primary Cationic Flocculant Polyacrylamide High Molecular Weight

General Of Blufloc Cationic Polyacrylamide Treatment for wastewater:

  1. Blufloc C8020 is a high molecular weight cationic polyacrylamide, used for use in a range of industrial and process applications including the treatment of wastewater streams, it is a versatile polymer product and is particularly useful for wastewater treatment applications including belt filter, centrifuge and screw press de watering, water clarification, filtration, thickening or use in a Dissolved Air Flotation plant.
  2. Millions of gallons of sludge have been pumped into Geotube containers for containment and dewatering of industrial waste, municipal sludge, and marine sediments. Paper mills, chemical companies, and nuclear power plants are just a few of the clients that have benefited from Geotube technology.
  3. Geotube dewatering containers are supplied to site and placed into position. Sludge which is treated with specialist polymers is then pumped into the containers and the clear effluent water is then drained leaving the solid remains within the container. When full the containers can be disposed at a landfill or the solids removed and land-applied.
  4. Blufloc Cationic series flocculants are also offered in a range of molecular weights. This enables the customer to select the optimum polymer depending on application needs, such as low molecular weights for low shear applications (e.g. gravity belt thickener) to very high molecular weights for high shear environments.

General Sludge Treatment Process:

Dewatering with Geotube technology is a three-step process:

Step 1: Filling

Sludge (dredged material) is pumped into the Geotube container. Environmentally-safe polymers are added to the sludge, which makes the solids bind together and water separate. The Geotube container's unique fabric confines the fine grains of the material.

Step 2: Dewatering

Clear effluent water simply drains from the Geotube container through the small pores in the specially engineered textile. This results in effective dewatering and efficient volume reduction of the contained materials. And this volume reduction allows for the repeated filling of the Geotube container. Over 99% of solids are captured, and clear filtrate can be collected and recirculated through the system.

Step 3: Consolidation

After the final cycle of filling and dewatering, the solids remain in the bag and continue to densify due to desiccation as residual water vapor escapes through the fabric. Volume reduction can be as high as 90%. When full, the Geotube container and contents can be deposited at a landfill, remain on-site, or the solids can be removed and land-applied when appropriate.

How to Use Blufloc Polyacrylamide?

Application and Dosage:
The dosage range of varies from 0.2 - 3.0 ppm depending upon the type of effluent and application. It is always advised to do a jar test for evaluating the functioning and approximate dosage.
Jar Test:

Put sample of effluent in a beaker and add it as designated, agitate for 1 minute at 100-120 rpm and then slowly agitate at 60rpm. Determine the floc properly at this time and note the sedimentation and clarity of top solution.
Procedure and precautions upon dispersion and dissolving flocculants:
Dissolving time: The time required to dissolve the flocculant varies according to the type of flocculant, water quality, temperature and agitation. However, most flocculants generally require around 1 hour of agitation to completely dissolve the powder. Incomplete mixture of flocculant or lumping may inhibit the performance of the flocculant.
Agitation speed: The ideal revolution of the agitator is between 200-400rpm. A high speed agitator operating without reducing the revolution of a motor is not advised, since it may cut the molecules of the flocculant. An ideal agitator motor should be of 1HP for a 1-2m3 mixing tank.
Dissolving concentration: Flocculants should be standardly be dissolved to 0.1-0.2% concentration. It is also effective to start dissolving at a slightly higher concentration, and then dilute the flocculant mixture immediately before use.
Handling measures and precautions:
Proper human safety products such as Splash goggles, lab coat, vapor respirator, gloves and boots should be worn while handling and applying chemicals. Splashes on skin should be washed off with water immediately. In case of splashing into the eyes, flush it with fresh water and obtain medical attention. Should not be injected. Please refer MSDS for more details.
