Fast Decolorization, Improved Sedimentation, and Better COD Reduction with Bluwat Chemicals
Water-based paint wastewater is often highly colored, colloidal, and difficult to settle. In this Vietnam case, Bluwat Chemicals applied a three-step solution using composite decoloring agent, pH adjustment, and PAM flocculation to transform pink paint wastewater into clear supernatant with dense settled sludge.
A mid-sized coatings manufacturer in Vietnam was producing water-based paint wastewater with strong pink coloration, high turbidity, and poor settling performance. The existing treatment process could not achieve stable clarification, and discharge compliance was becoming more difficult.
The wastewater contained dispersed pigments, fine suspended solids, and stable colloidal particles, making conventional coagulation insufficient. The client needed a practical and cost-effective treatment solution that could be integrated into the existing wastewater treatment system.
Add Composite Decoloring Agent
Break down color bodies and destabilize colloidal particles in the wastewater.
Adjust pH
Optimize the reaction environment to improve coagulation efficiency and decolorization performance.
Add PAM Flocculant
Promote fast floc formation, accelerate sedimentation, and improve solid-liquid separation.
After treatment, the wastewater changed from opaque pink to clear supernatant, while paint solids formed dense flocs and settled rapidly. This visual result clearly demonstrated the effectiveness of the combined decolorization and flocculation program.

| Parameter | Before Treatment | After Decoloring Agent | After pH Adjustment | Final After PAM |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Colority | 3200 Pt-Co | 1400 Pt-Co | 650 Pt-Co | 120 Pt-Co |
| COD | 2850 mg/L | 2100 mg/L | 1580 mg/L | 980 mg/L |
| Turbidity | Very High | High | Medium | Low |
| Settling Performance | Poor | Improved | Good | Fast and Stable |
The colority dropped significantly after the three-step treatment, showing excellent decolorization performance for water-based paint effluent.
COD was also reduced during treatment, helping the client improve overall wastewater quality and downstream compliance potential.
