Product Overview
This HPAM is a high molecular weight, water-soluble polymer supplied as an off-white granular powder. Its primary role in polymer flooding is to increase injected water viscosity, improve sweep efficiency, and reduce viscous fingering. The polymer dissolves quickly in fresh water and forms stable solutions suitable for continuous injection systems.
Key Benefits
- High viscosity at low dosage for improved mobility control.
- Fast dissolution with minimal fisheyes or undissolved particles.
- Stable polymer solution with strong resistance to mechanical degradation.
- Multiple ionic types (anionic, cationic, nonionic) to match reservoir requirements.
- Low residual monomer and high solid content for safe handling.
Mechanism in Polymer Flooding
HPAM increases the viscosity of injection water, reducing the water-oil mobility ratio and enhancing the sweep of unswept zones within the reservoir. This results in a more uniform displacement front and greater recovery of remaining oil. The polymer’s performance depends heavily on formation water salinity, temperature, shear exposure, and molecular-weight selection.
Reservoir Suitability
- Temperature: Suitable for low-to-medium temperature reservoirs (commonly below 70°C).
- Salinity: Works well in low to moderate salinity; divalent-rich brines require additional screening.
- Permeability: Ideal for sandstone and unconsolidated formations; adjust molecular weight for tight formations.
- Compatibility: Laboratory compatibility testing with formation water is recommended before field injection.
