Reactive shale can break down during contact with drilling water and mechanical circulation, increasing the fine-solids load and making mud maintenance more difficult. A suitable anionic polymer can be evaluated as part of an inhibition program intended to preserve cuttings integrity and limit dispersion.
Shale response varies with mineralogy, water chemistry and exposure conditions. Blufloc APAM selection should therefore be based on tests with representative shale and the proposed fluid. The general APAM specification does not establish a PHPA grade identity or a universal shale-inhibition rating; confirm the selected polymer chemistry and application data with Bluwat.
A defined granular powder format supports controlled dispersion during polymer make-up.
Multiple molecular-weight and charge options allow screening against shale recovery and acceptable mud rheology.
The 750 kg net format suits operations equipped for enclosed big-bag unloading and regular polymer preparation.

Molecular weight and anionic degree are family ranges, not a single grade specification. Confirm the selected grade and agreed supply criteria before ordering. ISO 9001 refers to the manufacturer’s quality management system, not a guarantee of application performance.
Supply shale samples or mineralogical information together with the base-brine analysis, salt concentration and planned temperature exposure. Include any existing inhibitor, lubricant, viscosifier and filtration-control additives so the polymer is evaluated within the intended treatment package.
Choose the grade by comparing shale recovery or dispersion with the untreated fluid, while also checking mud properties. Polymer-induced flocculation may help remove some fines but can also interfere with a formulation if uncontrolled. The required outcome is a compatible inhibition program with an acceptable solids balance.
Establish a reproducible shale exposure test using the actual make-up water and representative cuttings.
Compare the base fluid with several candidate grades and dosages under the same rolling, temperature and contact-time conditions.
Record recovered cuttings, visible dispersion and any swelling observations, alongside changes in fluid rheology.
Check screen handling and additive compatibility before advancing the preferred formulation to a controlled drilling trial.
Use clean, compatible make-up water and add the powder gradually into an established mixing flow. Avoid dumping powder in one location, which can create lumps with dry cores. The TDS gives 0.1–0.5% as general solution-preparation guidance. If specified on an as-supplied powder mass basis, this corresponds to 1–5 kg of powder per 1,000 kg of final solution; agree the concentration basis for the project.
Allow approximately one hour of agitation as a starting reference, then confirm complete hydration. Water quality, temperature, grade and equipment affect the required time. The TDS’s 200–400 rpm reference is equipment dependent and should not be scaled to a different tank solely by rpm. Avoid severe shear after hydration. Determine the final treatment dosage through the application tests described above.
The featured packaging is a 750 kg net big bag. Confirm unloading, metering and moisture-protection requirements for the receiving site. The TDS also lists 25 kg kraft paper or PE bags and 750 kg net big bags. Store powder dry, protected from direct sunlight and at 0–35°C. Keep opened packaging tightly closed. Consult the current SDS for handling, spill control and personal protection.
Bluwat Chemicals is a China-based manufacturer and exporter of water treatment chemicals and functional polymers. Our business began in 2000, Bluwat was formally established in 2002, and our Yixing factory began production in 2004. We operate three production bases, including Yixing and Huaibei, and have supplied a cumulative 800,000 tonnes of products to customers in around 100 countries and regions. Our portfolio includes BWD-01 Water Decoloring Agent, PAM powder and emulsions, PolyDADMAC, Polyamine, PAC, Ferric Sulphate and ACH.
Our production and export background supports technical communication and supply planning for overseas industrial buyers.
We help customers compare wastewater or process conditions, treatment objectives and suitable chemical combinations before choosing a product.
Our coagulants, flocculants and specialty chemicals support projects in oil and gas, mining, textiles, pulp and paper, and municipal water treatment.
Our ISO 9001 quality management system and agreed grade specifications provide a basis for purchasing discussions. Application performance is verified through the relevant trials.
No. APAM describes an anionic polymer family, while a PHPA drilling grade requires confirmation of the specific chemistry and performance. Request a grade-specific recommendation for shale service.
No. Shale mineralogy, fluid chemistry and mechanical conditions differ. The polymer may need to work with a compatible salt or inhibitor package and the overall drilling-fluid design.
No. It describes the supplied dry powder. Proper preparation should produce a hydrated polymer solution without visible dry cores or persistent lumps.
