Product Description
BLUFLOC ANIONIC POLYACRYLAMIDE

Short description

Blufloc APAM is an off-white granular polymer with a particle-size specification of 20–100 mesh. It is used for evaluating flocculation of suitable solids in oilfield wastewater treatment. Grade choice depends on the wastewater and the preceding chemical-conditioning steps. The featured packaging is a 25 kg kraft paper bag.

Product overview

Oilfield wastewater streams differ in oil content, fine solids, salinity and residual chemicals. A flocculant must be selected for the actual feed and treatment objective. Blufloc APAM can help evaluate polymer bridging after the particles or emulsion residues have been conditioned for separation.

Where oil emulsions are present, an emulsion-breaking treatment may be needed before flocculation. Coagulation and pH adjustment may also be required. Bluwat's selection approach compares the complete treatment sequence, rather than expecting APAM alone to remove every oilfield contaminant.

Product benefits

Flocculation performance screening

Candidate grades can be compared for floc formation, water clarity and separability in the actual wastewater.

Controlled solution dosing

Powder supply supports preparation of a dilute solution for controlled dosing and distribution.

Coordinated chemical selection

A coordinated coagulant-and-flocculant review can align chemical choice with settling, flotation or sludge handling.

Molecular weight and anionic degree are family ranges, not a single grade specification. Confirm the selected grade and agreed supply criteria before ordering. ISO 9001 refers to the manufacturer’s quality management system, not a guarantee of application performance.

Grade selection for this application

Provide the wastewater source, pH, salinity, suspended solids, oil characteristics, existing chemicals and treatment equipment. State whether the main target is clarified water, flotation performance, sludge thickening or another measurable endpoint.

A useful screening sequence for suitable oily waters is emulsion breaker, optional polyaluminium chloride coagulant, pH adjuster and then APAM. A pH of 7–8 may be tested as a starting condition where appropriate, but the optimum must be confirmed for the actual water and chemical package. Adjust pH before adding PAM.

Application evaluation and use

1

Separate the pretreatment task from the flocculation task by testing the untreated feed and conditioned water.

2

Optimize any emulsion breaker, coagulant and pH adjustment before comparing APAM grades and dosage.

3

Use adequate initial distribution followed by gentle floc growth, then assess the intended settling or flotation step.

4

Compare outlet turbidity, solids or oil measurements and sludge behavior before confirming the operating sequence.

Solution preparation and dosing

Use clean, compatible make-up water and add the powder gradually into an established mixing flow. Avoid dumping powder in one location, which can create lumps with dry cores. The TDS gives 0.1–0.5% as general solution-preparation guidance. If specified on an as-supplied powder mass basis, this corresponds to 1–5 kg of powder per 1,000 kg of final solution; agree the concentration basis for the project.

Allow approximately one hour of agitation as a starting reference, then confirm complete hydration. Water quality, temperature, grade and equipment affect the required time. The TDS’s 200–400 rpm reference is equipment dependent and should not be scaled to a different tank solely by rpm. Avoid severe shear after hydration. Determine the final treatment dosage through the application tests described above.

Packaging storage and handling

The featured packaging is a 25 kg kraft paper bag with an inner plastic liner. The TDS also lists 25 kg kraft paper or PE bags and 750 kg net big bags. Store powder dry, protected from direct sunlight and at 0–35°C. Keep opened packaging tightly closed. Consult the current SDS for handling, spill control and personal protection.

Frequently asked questions

Should APAM be added before the pH adjuster

For the treatment sequence described here, complete the selected pH adjustment before PAM addition. Confirm the optimum sequence through jar testing.

Is polyaluminium chloride always necessary

No. Its need and dosage depend on the wastewater. Compare the pretreatment options rather than imposing the same coagulant program on every stream.

Does clear-looking water prove complete treatment

No. Measure the parameters relevant to the outlet specification. Dissolved salts and soluble organic material may remain after visible solids are removed.
