BLUFLOC ANIONIC POLYACRYLAMIDE

Short description

Blufloc APAM is available for grade-specific evaluation in oilfield hydraulic friction-reduction applications. The family specification includes anionic degrees of 5–100%, but it does not provide a drag-reduction percentage or identify every grade as a qualified friction reducer. The featured pack is a 25 kg kraft paper bag.

Product overview

A suitable dissolved polymer can alter pressure loss in turbulent aqueous flow. Whether a particular APAM grade provides a useful effect depends on its chemistry, hydration, concentration, water quality and the flow conditions. The effect must be measured in a representative flow loop rather than inferred from a beaker-viscosity result.

Bluwat can discuss candidate anionic powders for screening against the intended duty. The general TDS does not establish rapid on-the-fly hydration, proppant-transport capability or a specified reduction in pumping pressure. Those requirements need a defined product grade and supporting application data.

Product benefits

Controlled hydration screening

Dry polymer candidates allow concentration and hydration time to be examined independently during development.

Pressure-drop comparison

Grade comparison can connect pressure-drop response with water chemistry and mechanical handling.

Performance and cost assessment

A documented testing basis helps buyers compare delivered performance and treatment cost rather than powder specification alone.

Molecular weight and anionic degree are family ranges, not a single grade specification. Confirm the selected grade and agreed supply criteria before ordering. ISO 9001 refers to the manufacturer’s quality management system, not a guarantee of application performance.

Grade selection for this application

Provide the intended flow rate, pipe dimensions, water or brine analysis, temperature and other additives. State the available hydration time and whether the polymer will be prepared in a tank or introduced through a continuous system.

Distinguish turbulent-flow drag reduction from drilling-contact lubricity and from EOR viscosity control. Evaluate pressure drop at comparable flow conditions, then test the effect of shear history and any required cleanup. A highly viscous sample is not, by itself, evidence of an effective friction-reduction treatment.

Application evaluation and use

1

Measure a base-water pressure-drop curve in a representative, repeatable flow-loop configuration.

2

Test candidate grades across concentrations and hydration times while controlling water composition and flow rate.

3

Compare pressure-drop response after representative mechanical exposure and check compatibility with the complete fluid package.

4

If reservoir contact is intended, add appropriate cleanup and permeability evaluations before an operational trial.

Solution preparation and dosing

Use clean, compatible make-up water and add the powder gradually into an established mixing flow. Avoid dumping powder in one location, which can create lumps with dry cores. The TDS gives 0.1–0.5% as general solution-preparation guidance. If specified on an as-supplied powder mass basis, this corresponds to 1–5 kg of powder per 1,000 kg of final solution; agree the concentration basis for the project.

Allow approximately one hour of agitation as a starting reference, then confirm complete hydration. Water quality, temperature, grade and equipment affect the required time. The TDS’s 200–400 rpm reference is equipment dependent and should not be scaled to a different tank solely by rpm. Avoid severe shear after hydration. Determine the final treatment dosage through the application tests described above.

Packaging storage and handling

The featured packaging is a 25 kg kraft paper bag with an inner plastic liner. The TDS also lists 25 kg kraft paper or PE bags and 750 kg net big bags. Store powder dry, protected from direct sunlight and at 0–35°C. Keep opened packaging tightly closed. Consult the current SDS for handling, spill control and personal protection.

Our ISO 9001 quality management system and agreed grade specifications provide a basis for purchasing discussions. Application performance is verified through the relevant trials.

Frequently asked questions

Does the TDS guarantee a friction-reduction percentage

No. It gives general polymer specifications. Establish the reduction by flow-loop testing under stated water, concentration and flow conditions.

Can the powder be used as an instant on-the-fly friction reducer

That capability is not established by the TDS. Verify the selected grade's hydration and response within the actual available residence time.

Is the most highly charged grade necessarily best

No. Charge is only one selection factor. Compare the exact grade, hydration behavior, water compatibility and measured pressure-drop response.
