BLUFLOC ANIONIC POLYACRYLAMIDE

Short description

Blufloc APAM offers grade-dependent molecular weights of 5–25 million and a minimum solid content of 89%. It can be screened for separating suspended solids from drilling wastewater and spent slurry. Selection focuses on water clarity, floc durability and equipment compatibility. The featured packaging is a 25 kg PE bag.

Product overview

Drilling wastewater may contain clay, fine cuttings, weighting material, residual polymers and other fluid additives. These components can make solids separation difficult and create variable chemical demand. A suitable APAM grade can be evaluated to aggregate conditioned fine particles for settling or mechanical separation.

This treatment duty differs from adding polymer to the active drilling mud. The objective is to remove solids from a waste or recovery stream. Bluwat selects the candidate grade against the actual wastewater and the planned separator, including any need for upstream coagulation or pH adjustment.

Product benefits

Water clarity screening

Polymer screening can target recovery of clearer water from fine-solids-rich drilling waste.

Floc durability comparison

Molecular-weight and charge options allow comparison of floc size and durability through the separation equipment.

Liquid and solids assessment

Treatment assessment can include both the liquid outlet and the handling properties of the separated solids.

Molecular weight and anionic degree are family ranges, not a single grade specification. Confirm the selected grade and agreed supply criteria before ordering. ISO 9001 refers to the manufacturer’s quality management system, not a guarantee of application performance.

Grade selection for this application

Provide solids concentration, particle characteristics, water chemistry, residual drilling-fluid additives and the intended separation equipment. Include the reuse target if clarified water will return to the drilling operation, since dissolved salts and residual chemicals can affect its suitability.

Compare final clarity with floc strength under representative shear. The largest floc in a jar is not always the most robust in a pump, centrifuge or filtration process. Express dosage on a clear basis, such as product mass per water volume or per dry-solids mass, so trial results can be transferred correctly.

Application evaluation and use

1

Collect a representative waste sample and characterize both the liquid and solids loading.

2

Screen any required conditioning step, then compare APAM grades at multiple product dosages.

3

Assess settling, filtrate or centrate clarity and the response to representative mechanical handling.

4

Confirm water recovery and solids handling in a controlled equipment trial before setting routine dosage.

Solution preparation and dosing

Use clean, compatible make-up water and add the powder gradually into an established mixing flow. Avoid dumping powder in one location, which can create lumps with dry cores. The TDS gives 0.1–0.5% as general solution-preparation guidance. If specified on an as-supplied powder mass basis, this corresponds to 1–5 kg of powder per 1,000 kg of final solution; agree the concentration basis for the project.

Allow approximately one hour of agitation as a starting reference, then confirm complete hydration. Water quality, temperature, grade and equipment affect the required time. The TDS’s 200–400 rpm reference is equipment dependent and should not be scaled to a different tank solely by rpm. Avoid severe shear after hydration. Determine the final treatment dosage through the application tests described above.

Packaging storage and handling

The featured packaging is a 25 kg PE bag with an inner plastic liner. The TDS also lists 25 kg kraft paper or PE bags and 750 kg net big bags. Store powder dry, protected from direct sunlight and at 0–35°C. Keep opened packaging tightly closed. Consult the current SDS for handling, spill control and personal protection.

Our coagulants, flocculants and specialty chemicals support projects in oil and gas, mining, textiles, pulp and paper, and municipal water treatment.

Quality and purchasing clarity

Our ISO 9001 quality management system and agreed grade specifications provide a basis for purchasing discussions. Application performance is verified through the relevant trials.

Frequently asked questions

Can this grade be selected from molecular weight alone

No. Charge, wastewater chemistry, residual additives and separation equipment also influence the result. Use a grade and dosage comparison on the actual feed.

Does APAM make recovered water ready for any reuse

No. Check the intended reuse specification, including dissolved salts and residual chemicals that flocculation does not remove.

Should jar-test dosage be copied directly to the plant

Use the same dosage basis, then confirm in an equipment trial. Mixing energy, residence time and solids variability may change the plant requirement.
