Product Description
BLUFLOC ANIONIC POLYACRYLAMIDE

Short description

Blufloc APAM is an off-white granular anionic polymer with at least 89% solids and a particle-size range of 20–100 mesh. It is available for gas-well water-based drilling-fluid trials where a defined polymer function and compatible grade are required. The featured packaging is a 25 kg kraft paper bag.

Product overview

Gas-well drilling-fluid requirements vary by formation, trajectory, pressure regime and planned completion. A polymer suitable for one interval may not be suitable for another. Blufloc APAM screening starts with the intended contribution to the water-based fluid and the project's measurable operating limits.

Potential duties include viscosity development and interaction with clay or cuttings, subject to grade selection. The dry powder specification supports purchasing and laboratory comparison, while downhole suitability depends on the full fluid. Polymer addition does not replace mud-weight, hydraulics or well-control engineering.

Product benefits

Controlled concentration trials

Bagged powder allows separate preparation and controlled comparison of candidate treatment concentrations.

Incoming-material checks

Defined solids and particle-size specifications support consistent incoming-material checks.

Selection by drilling interval

Function-based screening helps align the polymer with the requirements of each drilling interval.

Molecular weight and anionic degree are family ranges, not a single grade specification. Confirm the selected grade and agreed supply criteria before ordering. ISO 9001 refers to the manufacturer’s quality management system, not a guarantee of application performance.

Grade selection for this application

Provide the planned water-based mud, water chemistry, solids content, trajectory and anticipated temperature. Identify whether the target is cuttings interaction, viscosity development or another fluid-property adjustment. Include the intended contact with producing formations.

Where reservoir contact is expected, consider appropriate compatibility and formation-damage testing in addition to routine mud tests. A favorable viscosity or shale-recovery result does not establish retained permeability or compatibility with completion fluids. Confirm these requirements before the product is selected for that duty.

Application evaluation and use

1

Define acceptance criteria for the intended interval and prepare a base-fluid control.

2

Screen APAM grades with the complete additive package, checking hydration and unwanted precipitates or agglomeration.

3

Measure the relevant rheology, filtration and aged-fluid behavior under representative conditions.

4

Where applicable, add reservoir-contact and cleanup evaluations before approving a controlled operational trial.

Solution preparation and dosing

Use clean, compatible make-up water and add the powder gradually into an established mixing flow. Avoid dumping powder in one location, which can create lumps with dry cores. The TDS gives 0.1–0.5% as general solution-preparation guidance. If specified on an as-supplied powder mass basis, this corresponds to 1–5 kg of powder per 1,000 kg of final solution; agree the concentration basis for the project.

Allow approximately one hour of agitation as a starting reference, then confirm complete hydration. Water quality, temperature, grade and equipment affect the required time. The TDS’s 200–400 rpm reference is equipment dependent and should not be scaled to a different tank solely by rpm. Avoid severe shear after hydration. Determine the final treatment dosage through the application tests described above.

Packaging storage and handling

The featured packaging is a 25 kg kraft paper bag with an inner plastic liner. The TDS also lists 25 kg kraft paper or PE bags and 750 kg net big bags. Store powder dry, protected from direct sunlight and at 0–35°C. Keep opened packaging tightly closed. Consult the current SDS for handling, spill control and personal protection.

Frequently asked questions

Does APAM control gas influx

No. The polymer is a fluid additive. Well control relies on the appropriate drilling program, equipment, pressure management and qualified operating procedures.

Can any anionic grade be used across all gas-well intervals

No. Formation, water chemistry, temperature and fluid objectives vary. Select and verify the grade for the intended interval and formulation.

Does the TDS provide retained-permeability data

No. It provides general polymer specifications and preparation guidance. Obtain application-specific testing when reservoir contact or cleanup performance is important.
